It belted down at about half six, and we were undecided whether to bother going to this game or not. It actually stopped raining at 7pm, and the decision was made to make the trip to Carnarvon Street.
The pitch was a bit waterlogged, but perfectly playable, and Pinxton took the game to their opponents for the first 15 mins or so, but when an attack broke down on 18, the ball reached David Hind who calmly fired past Dave O'Hare. H-T 1-0
Borrowash were gifted a goal just three minutes after the restart, O'Hare failing to keep hold of a cross, Hind again on hand to prod home the loose ball. Rob Harrison fired home a 25 yard free-kick on 55 to make it 3-0 to Vics. Nathan Parker raced through on his own on 82 to make it four, then on 85, the rotund figure of Rory Maxwell poached the fifth. F-T 5-0
Pinxton were not at full strength, and had a few new faces in their line up, but after they lost the influential Wayne Cooke early in the first half, some of their drive and enthusiasm disappeared, and to be fair, the boys from Wharf Road never looked like scoring.
The Pinxton players admitted that they were not really with it on the night, but although the result looks a bad one from Pinxton's perspective, the first two goals were down to individual errors, the third a free-kick that canonned in off the post, the fourth was scored while Ryan Brooker was receiving treatment on his shoulder, and Jamie Renshaw was hurrying on to take the centre-backs position. The fifth goal was preventable - Maxwell left unmarked a few feet from goal, and he was not going to miss from there.
Looking forward to seeing the consolation game next week, although the matches have been revamped so Teversals' teams won't have to play each other. The consolation games were to have been Teversal White v Teversal Red on Tuesday, with Pinxton taking on Ollerton on Thursday. Now Ollerton will take Teversal White on Tuesday, with Pinxton taking on Teversal Red on Thursday... I think....!
