Pinxton FC 2-0 Linby CW

Split loyalties for me - I have good friends who play for both teams, so I tried to be neutral!!

Kev was at the City Ground with his Son and two of his Grandsons - look right at home, don't they!!!

Pinxton stay 4th after this result, and look to be going into the rest of the season battling with Sutton Town AFC and Bilborough Pelican for promotion to step 6.  Click here for latest CMLS table. Although Belper Utd and Newark Town are in the mix, these teams haven't applied for promotion according the the recently released FA list.

With Kev being absent, I tried to do a spot of photography.Failed miserably at first, improving only slightly as I had learned how to use the camera!!

Teams:

Pinxton : Frost, Marriott P, Parker, Riley, Henshaw D, Brooker, Bettison, Moore, Debrouwer, Houghton, Cooper

Linby : McNeill, Henshaw T, Dakers, Banister, Jago, Niblett, Burke, Marlow S, Murphy, Peberday, McDermott

Sean Gregory and Jamie Renshaw

Pinxton looked a bit sluggish from the off, but they had the games first chance on 9 minutes when Ryan Booker was picked out in the 6 yard box - only a neat goal-line save by Phil McNeill kept the centre-backs effort out.

Michael Banister made a superb well timed tackle just inside the area to prevent Jay Cooper crossing too three waiting team-mates on 13.

Mark Frost is a well-respected keeper and friend of this blog - he had to be alert to dive at Matt Peberday's feet in the 40th minute after he found room in the 6 yard box. "Frosty" could only watch seconds later as Matt Murphy fired a neat shot across the goal that crept just past the far stick. H-T 0-0

Don't normally bother with a coffee at half-time, but it was that bloody cold I decided to partake. £0.70 for a bucket full!  Other clubs take note!!

Linby began the second half as they ended the first, forcing Frost to dive at Murphy's feet on 48. The keeper was grateful a few minutes later when a fierce Peberday drive beat him, but crashed off the post before rebounding straight into his arms.

An error from Simon Marlow gifted the ball to Keiran Debrouwer in the 53rd minute, but the striker fired his shot wide of McNeil's far post. When Jamie Renshaw crossed from the left moments later, Debrouwer headed the ball just over the bar. It was a case of third time lucky for DEBROUWER though when Banister fluffed a clearance. The ball fell kindly to "Keano" who had the simple task of placing the ball wide of McNeil to open the scoring.

PERRY MARRIOTT was the unlikely scorer of Pinxton's second goal - the home debutant volleying home at the far post after McNeil failed to cut out Darren Bettison's free-kick. Cooper had a great chance to add a third on 81 after he ran into the box and sat Banister on his backside - unfortunately for the striker McNeill was alert enough to block the shot that followed. F-T 2-0

After the game, the Pinxton players lined up as an honour guard for midfielder Ben Moore who was playing his final game before undergoing surgery and will be out of the game for some time. Nice touch lads.....

Hucknall Tn AFC 1-7 Real Utd

Blimey - frost on the pitch and sub-zero temperatures --- proper January weather has finally arrived !!!!!

Almost gave this a miss as we were thinking of going to AFC Mansfield v Linby. Although the home team were on the receiving end of a bit of a drubbing, the game wasn't half bad - and with Danny Staley and Richard Lane to keep us company,  we had a very pleasant, if not chilly, evening.

Real move up to 5th in the CML South table after this victory, whilst Town remain third bottom.  The visitors took the lead in the 9th minute, when a speculative 25 yard low drive from CALLUM MOSS that flew through a crowded area and found the bottom corner of the home net.

3 minute later, United's lead was increased courtesy of a thumping OG from CAMERON DAVIDSON.  It was 0-3 after just a quarter of an hours play - Jaylee Hodgson picking out DALTON STEPHENS who raced in on goal before slotting home.

Town reduced their arrears on 31 when KAMAR DAVIS unleashed an unstoppable drive from 25+ yards that left the visiting keeper grasping at thin air. H-T 1-3

Real were gifted their fourth goal on 72 minutes. The home keeper collected the ball to end another attack, but as he bowled the ball out, it hit a defender and fell straight to the feet of JAYLEE HODGSON who couldn't believe his luck. The well-travelled Montserrat international wasted no time in smashing the ball into the back of the net.

STEPHENS netted his second on 85, then "GINGE" rose like a salmon to nod home Tobias Richardson's superb cross with 89 on the clock. We couldn't put a name to the lad, but politically incorrect or not, his team mates all called him "Ginge", although I couldn't imagine where the nickname originated!!

The Real no. 8 prodded home the visitors' seventh in stoppage time, giving a scoreline that somewhat flattered the away team.  F-T 1-7

Tuesday 8 January 2013

Gedling MW 2-4 Greenwood Meadows

Damp miserable night, especially for the Welfare faithfull!  This was the 7th defeat in their last 11 games - the other four games were drawn. Gedling website manager/photographer Tony Hay actually posted on facebook prior to the game  "when will we win again??"  Maybe against league leaders Basford on Saturday? Maybe not!!

Gedling gave debuts to Jarrod Westcarr and Nick Hawkins, but it was Greenwood's Mr. Reliable Jordan Blair and strike partner Lewis Williamson who caught the eye throughout the game.

Spent the game in the company of Richard Lane and "deadly" Derek - Richard had promised to let me have a copy of a programme team list from yonks ago, Derby Rolls Royce v West Hallam. As a former programme editor, I know how it annoys the crap out of you when the opposition fails to submit a squad.  This particular editor had obviously had enough !!!!!

Excellent !!

Greenwood went ahead with just 8 minutes gone, and they can thank Welfare's Tom Watson for an assist. His poor pass picked out Williamson who in turn fed JORDAN BLAIR. The prolific striker ran in on goal slotted past keeper Rhys Watkinson.

The home team gave away the possession needlessly again on the edge of their area on 26, and LEWIS WILLIAMSON took full advantage of the gift, drilling the ball low and hard past the despairing dive of Watkinson. H-T 0-2

Greenwood went further ahead with just 6 minutes of the second period played. A superb cross from Blair flew over Watkinson's reach, fell onto the goal-line and was bundled into the goal by unfortunate Gedling full-back TOM WATSON, who had raced back to cover. This goal has been credited to Blair, but I'm having none of that!!!!

From the restart, George Bradley played a cracking ball to Westcarr - who played an even better ball across field to pick out ASHLEY WHITT on the far stick. A neat touch to control and a shot across James Kay gave the home team a little hope of a dramatic comeback.

It was not to be though, as on the hour mark Kieran Whalin and Blair combined well to set up WILLIAMSON who fired past Watkinson from 12 yards.

BEN MIDDLETON added a second for Gedling on 75, his looping header from a right wing cross leaving Kay stranded.  After that, the Greenwood defence retook control of the game and saw out the final 15 without further incident. F-T 2-4

Arnold T U19 2-3 Pinxton U19

Under 19 football resumed for "ontheroad" in 2013, with a little gem of a game. For the first 25 minutes or so it seemed that it would be a case of "how many" for the home team as they cruised into a 2-0 lead.

But Pinxton came out after the break and turned the game on it's head - ending the game with all three points in the bag. Craig Langton did not officiate as per the programme!

MARCUS FLETCHER put the Eagles ahead in the 4th minute, heading home a perfectly placed free-kick from Joe Brothwell. FLETCHER was on hand again on 23 when the Arnold no.8 played the ball across the goal, finding the striker unmarked just a couple of yards from goal. Pinxton rallied a little as the half drew to a close, but showed no signs of what was to come after the break. H-T 2-0

LEE FAZAKERLEY brought the visitors back into the game in the 57th minute, drilling home from 12 yards after the home defence failed to clear a corner from the right.

Pinxton never allowed Arnold to settle after that, and when Greg Marriott floated a free-kick into the area, ANT TIMMONS was left on his own and had ages to pick a spot before nodding past the Arnold keeper.

The comeback was complete after 77 minutes had been played, a penalty kick awarded for a seemingly innocuous challenge, hammered home by GREG MARRIOTT.

Left a tense few minutes for Pinxton to see out, but by this time Arnold had more or less convinced themselves that the cause was lost. F-T 2-3

What a great two quids worth ! Richard Riley was very pleasant company, but the attendance was a disappointing 33.

Green Dragon 0-3 Plough Barflies

Notts Sunday League Premier Premier - 6th January.. kick off 10:30am

Back to Sunday footie - seems ages since my last Sunday game. Made the short trip to Titchfield Park in Hucknall to watch Green Dragon entertain Plough Barflies - a contest between two of the Town's hostelries.

A very foggy morning and a boggy pitch, but the game was never in doubt - there were over 50 people in attendance.

Barflies skipper Mike Banister had a 20 yard free-kick expertly turned over his bar by Dragon keeper Jamie Taylor after only 3 minutes had been played, then the keeper had to be alert to tip over a Jonty Bradshaw effort after the striker had been played in by Dave Marlow.

Dragon's first real chance fell to Kane Matthews on 12, but his run at goal was curtailed by a superb saving tackle by Duncan Paterson. Jonny Bernard smashed the ball against the Barflies bar on 20 after Taylor's long hoof upfield had picked out the winger.

Barflies took the lead in the 31st minute, JONTY BRADSHAW converting from the spot after he was fouled in the box by the home teams skipper. Taylor did get a hand to the ball, but it was firmly struck by Bradshaw and nestled in the back of the net.

Taylor tipped another Bradshaw effort over the bar on 37, then the home teams job was made even more difficult with three minutes of the first half remaining when defender Matt Lewis was sent off for picking up a second yellow. H-T 0-1

On 59, Taylor made a rash decision to dive at the feet Bradshaw as the no. 9 was played through on goal - the challenge was slightly mis-timed and Referee Liam Jones immediately pointed to the spot. DAVE MARLOW stepped up and sent Taylor the wrong way from the spot.

Marlow was the creator of the third 'Flies goal in the 63rd minute, his superb defence splitting pass finding ROSS CHEESMAN, who calmly dinked the ball over the advancing Taylor.  F-T 0-3

Very entertaining game - and a deserved win for the visitors. I think they will have a much sterner test next week when the play Nuthall at the Rolls Royce complex.

Hucknall Town 1-6 Brigg Town

Even after the recent disastrous results, we went to Watnall Road with a slight hope that things will now begin to improve, especially after the cracking turn out at the trials day on Thursday.  Well, at least the Yellows had a full team sheet, which in itself is something of a rare event.

Unfortunately Brigg also had a full teamsheet, and with Paul Grimes leading their line, any sloppy defending was going to be punished to the max. Comparing the line-ups, the Zebras were never likely to leave Watnall Road without the three points, although the home team did hold out until the half hour mark.

Alex Malong had made a cracking double save on 28, but could do nothing to keep out PAUL GRIMES two minutes later. The Brigg hitman rounded Rob Paling before sliding home at the far post after Davis had given Jason Gregory the slip and fired the ball in from the right.

Grimes nets Brigg's 1st at the far post

Malong had to be alert again after 35 minutes had been played, keeping out Alex Flett's effort.  Brigg doubled their lead on 38 - great interplay between Flett and LIAM DAVIS ended with the no.7 slotting neatly home from 8 yards. H-T 0-2

Davis adds the second

"One Eye On The Ball" bloggist Dudsey came  to join us at half-time - he's not been to well lately so posts on his blog have been few and far between recently. Hopefully he will take this chance to give his slant on the game....

The home team went further behind with 12 minutes of the second half played - a defensive header from James Leggitt picked out GRIMES 15 yards from goal and the striker drilled the ball low and hard just inside the post. Not a player to hand gifts to, but a good finish none the less.

Seconds later, Hucknall made a rare foray up the field and were awarded a penalty by Referee Alan Sarginson - a bit of climbing indicated by the official. ROB PALING stepped up and drilled the ball past Jamie Green to give a little hope of a comeback to the home supporters.

Alas, it was not to be because when Gregory failed to cut out Mark Dudley's cross from the left on 72, RYAN PACZKOWSKI was left with the simple chance of firing past an unprotected Malong.

GRIMES completed his personal triple in the 84th minute, stabbing home at the far post after he was allowed too much space. The scoring was completed in the final minute, DANNY BUTTLE given a simple  close range tap in after the ball was hit across the goal from the right wing. F-T 1-6

Referee Sarginson had a relatively trouble free game - although credit must go to both sets of players for their superb attitude throughout.  Mind you, looks like Alan is not really one to argue with !!!!

MOM - for his defensive work and despite the scoreline, Kyle Ludlow gets the nod. Made several last ditch tackles that kept the score down!  Not too bad for a converted midfield player!! Alex Malong was in contention for his superb handling and shot stopping, as was Warren Hatfield for his tireless box to box efforts.

Rainworth MW 2-0 Carlton Town

Rainworth won this New Years day clash thanks to a goal apiece in each half from their strike duo of Ian Holmes and Conor Higgingson.

Spent the game in the company of Tony Squires - and had passing words with former Wrens keeper Mark Hales, former Hucknall boss Brett Marshall and good friend Brian Dennett.  Rob Hornby was also present - still looking for takers on tickets for the inaugural Notts Senior League groundhop.

The game was poor for this level - even the goals were nothing to get excited about!

The first came on 31 - IAN HOLMES slotting past Martin Kearney from 8 yards after he had latched onto a wayward Higginson shot.

The second Wrens goal was netted by HIGGINSON in the 55th minute, the no. 9 firing firmly home at the far post after Carlton's defenders failed to clear their 6 yard area.

There will be more detailed reports on both Rainworth and Carlton websites.
