Pinxton FC 8-0 Blidworth Welfare

CML South Division - Tuesday 4th September 2012 - kick off 7:46pm

First visit to Wharfe Road this season - the place is looking very neat and tidy. A lot of work seems to have been done during the closed season - including the addition of a new snap shed at the top end of the ground.

We usually enjoy our visits to Pinxton, but this was one of those nights where something happened that you couldn't have scripted! Acting Assistant Manager (?) Jamie Renshaw scored after coming off the bench. Nothing strange about that? Except that he had told us before he went on that he would score - and he also told us he would come straight over to us to have his picture taken.....

Enjoy!! Not an everyday occurrence, Mr. Renshaw!

For the first 20 minutes, it looked as though Blidworth would prove to be a difficult outfit to break down, but after the first one went in, goals followed on a fairly regular basis.

Jay Cooper headed over, and Keiran Debrouwer failed to connect with a Cooper right wing cross early doors. Then the Pinxton passing game took over and when the ball landed at Ben Bacon's feet in the 20th minute, he curled a superb ball into the box, straight into the path of DEBROUWER who volleyed neatly home without even having to break stride.

Wayne Cooke was having a cracking game on the right, and he thought his hard work was rewarded when he deflected Bacon's shot into the net, only to be ruled to be in an offside position when he connected.

After another sustained spell of Pinxton pressure, the ball found it's way to JOSH PARKER on the edge of the box - and when the left back tried his luck with his right foot, no-one was more surprised than he when it crept in at the far post! H-T 2-0

The second half was only three minutes old when Pinxton netted again, this time BEN BACON on hand at the far post to grab a tap in after Debrouwer's cross was allowed to go all the way across goal.

On 56, DEBROUWER took full advantage of more poor defending, hammering home from 20 yards after Blidworth failed to deal with a left wing corner.

Substitute JAMES PEARCE got in on the goal action after 67 minutes had been played, tapping home after he was allowed too much room in the Blidworth box.

Then came the moment to savour : defender/friend/acting Assistant Manager JAMIE RENSHAW found himself in the Blidworth box, and after bringing the ball under control at the far post, fired the ball across the Blidworth keeper into the opposite corner! Much to everyone's amazement, "Jammer" ran full pelt (!) from the area to the half way line celebrate with me and Kev. He had already told us he was going to score when he went on, and also told us he would run to us if he did. He wanted his picture taken and Kev duly obliged!

JAY COOPER slid in the seventh Pinxton goal in the 80th minute, doing well to slide in at the far post and convert Cooke's cross.  MARK HOUGHTON completed the rout on 83, another Cooke cross, another far post tap in.  Cookie was a little upset he didn't bag a goal, but his overall performance was superb.  A great display of wing play - if you had to single a player out for MOM, Cookie would be my choice.
