Calverton MW 1-4 Pinxton FC

CML South Division -- Tuesday 11th September 2012 ko 7:49pm

Another trip to Calverton - our third so far this season - no worries about revisits for the Dynamic Duo - we're not serious hoppers after all, just football fans.

Didn't bother with a programme, so no pic - too dark to utilise Kev's skill's with the camera, so a no images  - just a few paragraphs of inane dribble.

Pinxton need a win against Calverton to get their season back on track after they lost to neighbours Sutton on Saturday.

For the first 30 minutes Pinxton struggled to get their game together, and it was only through a sheer stroke of luck that saw then open their account.  BEN BACON was wide on the right and approximately 35 yards from goal when punted the ball into the area - it must have caught the breeze or something as it sailed over Calvo keeper James Wright into the net.

Pinxton celebrate Bacon's goal -- thanks for the pic Jane!

The home team didn't let their heads drop, and were on level terms just before the half time whistle - DANE BENNETT capitalising on some poor marking and tapping home a left wing cross virtually on the goal-line.  How and why the no.7 was left unattended in front of goal will be the subject of an inquest after the game, of that I have no doubt. H-T 1-1

Pinxton must have had a bit of a rollicking during the break, because they looked a different team and started playing the game the way we know they can.  Darren Bettison decided to make his presence on the pitch known and set up two goals in quick succession.

First, his superb pass through the Calverton defensive line on 55 picked out KIERAN DEBROUWER who latched onto the ball and slotted easily past Wright.  Seconds later Bettison fired the ball into the area, and it fell to WAYNE COOKE who smashed the ball into the net from the corner of the 6 yard box.

In the final minute of the game, a Cooke corner from the right was missed by the Calverton defenders, and sub GREG MARRIOTT capitalised on the error, volleying home superbly from 12 yards out.

F-T 1-4 and Pinxton back on top of the league

We spent the second half in the company of Pinxton Treasurer Mick Barrett and Secretary Jane Brookes - excellent company.  Their next game is  in the Vase on Saturday - they take on Heather St Johns from the MFA. If the Pinxton lads keep their heads and stick to playing their way, this could be a bit of an upset.
