Green Dragon 2-3 Nuthall

Sunday 18th November 2012 - Notts F.A. Sunday Senior Trophy - ko 10:32am

For my latest Sunday football fix, I was joined by Sam Hodkin. Although he arrived 10 minutes into the game, this was not entirely his fault - the fixture was originally advertised as an 11am kick off.

This game was between two Notts Sunday League Premier Premier teams - they met in the league last week and the game ended as a 3-3 draw.  Nuthall are top of the division at the moment and have a smattering of well known non-league players in their ranks, Jimmy Spiers, Zeke Jenkins, Jake Want and Tyrone Burton to name just a few.

Added a few random images - just to illustrate how good Titchfield Park looks on a bright sunny day!!!

I originally had Kirkby v Birchover scheduled in, but when I was informed that level 3 referee Hristo Karaivanov was in the middle, I took the chance to catch up with our good friend.

Nuthall looked dangerous early doors, but were caught out in the 5th minute when MATTHEW LUCAS got to the ball before keeper Jake Want and flicked a neat header into the back of the net.

Lucas should have double the Dragon lead on 19, but he miskicked when left unmarked in front of goal. Costly miss, because just four minutes later the visitors drew level. A ball across the area picked out JIMMY SPIERS - and his fierce drive deflected into the goal by a defender. H-T 1-1

Had a chat to Hristo during the break, complimenting him on his handling of the game - although to be fair the players were on their best behavior, and this does make officiating so much easier.

Nuthall were ahead with 90 seconds of the second half played, JASON RUSSELL with all the time in the world to convert at the far post after his presence was totally ignored by the home defence.

Two minutes later Spiers fired over from six yards, but Nuthall did add their third on the hour mark, CONOR NAYLOR seeing his shot deflected in the net by the Dragon no. 4 shirt.

KANE MATTHEWS fired home at the far post for the home team on 67, but that was the final goal of the game and Nuthall progress into the semi-finals of the competition. F-T 2-3

H/C maximum 10 brave souls - a bright sunny morning, but it remained chilly throughout the game.
