Basford entertained a Maltby team against whom they had previously scored 8 without reply in the League Cup.
Met up with Simon Matters inside the ground - then we were joined by student and FC United of Manchester supporter Sam Hodkin. Sam's on the telly apparently on Friday - Channel 4's quiz show "1001 Things You Should Know" hosted by Sandy Toksvig at 3:30pm.
Three of the Basford youngsters made substitute appearances for the first team at Ibstock last Saturday - well done to Dan Jackson, Jack Smith and Conor Naylor.
It was JACKSON who opened the scoring on 6, a simple unchallenged header at the far stick JACK HODSON flicked home a well placed Smith free-kick in the 19th minute, then the Basford number 9 was on the mark again, an easy tap in after Jackson had dribbled his way into the area before picking out his strike partner.
Another Smith free-kick on 40 hit MITCHELL ROBINSON on the back and entered the net, then yet another Smith free-kick found JACKSON who had time to pick his spot and make it 5-0 at the break.
I have been to see all Basford U19 home games this season so far, and at times have been entertained royally - but one player has really given cause for a chuckle or two as he strove to get his name on the scoresheet. ANTON ROBINSON tried and tried everytime he came off the bench, but just couldn't find the net. On 72 he fired home from just inside the box, much to to everyone's delight.
KYLE KEETLEY fired home straight from the re-start. Missed this goal - we were still commenting on Anton's strike!
HODSON wrapped up his hat-trick in the 77th minute, hammering the ball home from 15 yards, then ANTON ROBINSON added his second with three minutes left on the clock. F-T 9-0
Good performance from the Basford lads again - a few more people than usual in attendance, my head count was 42. Is word finally reaching the outside world about the young talent that Basford have in their ranks? Let's hope so - 31 goals at home from 5 games - next up Carlton Town provisionally. Carlton look to be another struggling team and this should be a home banker.
