Sunday 21st April 2013 - Rolls Royce Sports complex - Watnall Road. Kick off 10: 37am
I thought there would be a few goals in this game - Nuthall are top of the NSL Premier Premier Division, whilst Barflys have had an ordinary season and after this result lie fifth in the table, 12 points behind their opponents.
When the Barflys lined up, it was clear that they were far from full strength - no Dakers, Hodgson, Bradshaw, Coupe, Harrison and Wilby. Nuthall had Tyrone Burton, Zeke Jenkins, Jake Want and Tobias Richardson in their starting eleven but no Jimmy Spiers or Heshem Ramadan.
To the casual football follower, these names may mean little or nothing, but they are all well known in local football circles.
RYAN JOHNSON opened the scoring for Nuthall in the 10th minute, beating his marker to the ball and firing home from 15 yards. Had to wait until the 34th minute for the next goal, and it came from TYRONE BURTON who tapped in from close range after Johnson had picked him out in front of the goal.
Nuthall had a free-kick right on the 18 yard line on 39. and ZEKE JENKINS curled the ball into the net to make it three-nil to the away team at the break.
On the hour mark, BURTON was allowed to run at goal after beating the offside trap and calmly slotted the ball past the 'Flys keeper. 7 minutes later ZAK COBURN had the simplest of headers to make it five after the ball had looped high into the air due to a deflection on the intended cross.
Nuthall defender TOBIAS RICHARDSON was given a more forward role shortly after, and he found space at the far post to volley home the visitors' sixth. Richardson then played in JOHNSON on 84, and the no. 10 made no mistake from 2 yards out. F-T 0-7
Attendance - varied. About a dozen at kick off, peaking at 25 as the game went on. There were more watching a young girls match on one of the smaller pitches at the complex!
