Not been to see United's first team for a while - they sit proudly at the top of the league and after this victory need only 5 more points from their remaining 4 games to ensure promotion.
Neil McGowan handed me a team sheet as we walked towards the turnstile - I was hoping Richard Harrison was in the Basford starting eleven - he told me at a recent Barflys game that whenever me and Kev go to Greenwich Avenue, he always gets a place on the bench. Apparently Richard has been starting regularly, but ooops, not on this occasion - you guessed it - he was on the bench and didn't even get to make an appearance! Sorry Richard!!
It's good to see the facilities improving all the time at Greenwich Avenue - the new club house is well worth a visit and on a bitterly cold night, most welcome.
Both goals came in the first half, the first on 29 minutes. AIDAN BRADY was found by a superbly timed through ball from Martin Carruthers, and the pacy no. 11 beat the offside trap before lifting the ball over Charlie Mansfield in the Vics' net.
BRADY was on the mark again with 4 minutes of the first period remaining, this time a ball from Cashel Walters picking him out in the corner of the box. Brady took a neat touch to control and then hit a sublime curled effort into the net at the far post. H-T 2-0
Borrowash defended solidly after the break, but had little to show up front - Basford added the considerable fire power of Courtney Hastings, Aaron Large and Dan Jackson, but couldn't find their way through the visitors defence in the second half, the game ending 2-0.
Referee Eddie Pidduck had his usual solid game in the middle - no fuss, no messing, no problems.
